A Painting A Day Postcard from Holland is a project, in which I intend to paint a small ('postcard-size') oil painting each day, and post it to this blog. I will depict everyday objects, local fruits and dutch landscapes. In this way I hope to give visitors a day-to-day impression of my life as an artist in Holland.
Following the advice of a fellow artist I tried to draw a head from imagination (ie without photo reference.) Details turned out to be tricky (eg. how are the relative tones of all the planes of the nose etc.) Will do this more often...

Got a sudden inclination to paint a flower again after some time. I liked the pale quality of this one, but it managed to turn bright when the sun hit it..

I'm feeling a bit ill today and I stayed at home tonight to rest. So I decided to make a tiny charcoal sketch of this stern looking 19th-century gentleman (from russia.) I used charcoal shavings to create a mid tone back ground. Then draw with vined charcoal and erase the lights..

Participated in a workshop at the Realisme 2011 Art Fair, at Wackers Academy, with Irma Braat as teacher. We did some 10 minute charcoal drawings of a really nice dancer-model. Unfortunately, I didn't bring any fixative so the drawings were smudged a bit on the way home...
